In 1999, the Kastens decided to take their newfound passion for winemaking one step further and bought a small piece of property on the valley floor in Napa. After taking many classes in Viticulture at Napa Valley College, the Kastens were able to make educated decisions on the best farming practices for their 2-acre vineyard situated in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. Based on the testing of their Bale Clay Loam soil and regional recommendations, the rootstock selected was 1616C. Following their own taste for classic Bordeaux reds, they chose to plant cabernet sauvignon, half in Clone 47 (French 337) and half in Clone FPS 30.1 to add complexity to the final wine product.

It was determined that a 6x6 spacing would provide the best exposure to all the climate elements necessary for premium wine production. The vineyard was planted in 2003 and is now meticulously managed by Doug Hill of Oak Knoll Farming.

Following their own taste for classic red blends they often blend their cabernet sauvignon with merlot and cabernet franc from neighboring vineyards. The grape production from this small plot turned out to be phenomenal with exquisite results. The quality and character of the produced wines have been exceptional. In order to keep their own wine production small and to share the abundance of fruit with others, the Kastens sell about half of the grapes to other winemakers.
